Baking with Babish’s page on Patreon is an example of Hartley’s idea that a creative economy is a domain for identity within a system and is important to communicate with the consumer.

“The creative economy is just such a domain. It combines the most intimate levels of personal identity and expression with global-scale markets and systems; and confronts both citizens and researchers with a situation where, in Mehita Iqani’s suggestive pun, human ‘I contact’ (2012: 148) is made through a mediated, symbolic environment in which who ‘I’ am – and how I establish my identity – is inseparable from the workings of global systems (media, markets) and technologies (networks, ‘big data’ and communication.” – Hartley 8

Patreon gives business’ a platform where they can express themselves and their goals through both video and written words to the viewers. Patreon is in its own, a trusted brand that takes the viewer upon an intimate page where they can learn about the creative industry, invest, and essentially drive technology. Culture is a driving force for innovation and Patreon, through the use of videos and written words on the page, brings on an intimate cultural experience for both the viewer and the consumers(The creative businesses) that drives connectivity within a cultural economic space. For instance, Binging with Babish is able to very casually ask for support for their business the Patreon page. However, in the writing on the Patreon page, Andrew Rea offers exclusive personalized deals to bring the investor a feeling of involvement in the organization. If you donate money to Binging with Babbish, Oliver Babbish will give custom episodes and personalized cooking lessons. Rea uses this space to identify who he is to the viewers and drive forward personalized episodes for the viewer as well as keeping their attention and money. Babish would not be making an extra $10,336 per month without the interconnective platform of Patreon.
